Since its purchase by the WWT in 1990, however, Castle Espie in Northern Ireland has been defined by a commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation. Thanks to two decades of dedicated conservation work the area now boasts Ireland’s largest collection of wildfowl and is renowned as the wintering ground for almost 95% of the world’s population of light-bellied Brent Geese who make the heroic 3000km journey from the Canadian Arctic to Strangford Lough each year.
