The Cross at Kingussie has developed its reputation as both an excellent restaurant and a temptation for diners to make a night of it and stay in one of its individually appointed rooms after a dram or two of whisky. The building itself is a former tweed mill and the owners have allowed the grounds next to the river turn into wild areas to encourage local wildlife such as roe deer, squirrels, hedgehogs, frogs, butterflies, and a large range of bird species. The rooms cut down on their energy and water usage and the bathrooms are stocked with natural toiletries. The decor is clean and basic with local art adorning the walls. Guests can enjoy their after dinner coffee and homemade petit fours in the comfortable lounge which includes stacks of games and books. The menu changes daily depending on seasons and local availability and the service is always friendly and personal.
