what we do

  • We promote the philosophy of responsible escapism. By this we mean encouraging everyone to look more closely at local opportunities to escape the daily grind. We all need escapism from time to tEcoescape bookshopime, so rather than falling into the hands of pre-packaged, shrink wrapped commodity tourism, ecoescape offers a potential for change.
  • We publish ideas and inspiration. ecoescape launched in 2007 with its unique green travel guide which features a plethora of ideas for sustainable travel across the UK. The guide was an instant hit with the media appearing in the Guardian, Times, BBC, Junior Magazine and many others. In 2008 ecoescape will be working with the Green Guide, who will be publishing the new ecoescape series. You can order your very own copy of ecoescape here.
  • We don't fly without thinking. ecoescape believes that the only way to reduce our carbon emissions through travel is to holiday closer to home and cut out flying altogether.
  • We give travellers a voice. This site features a unique space for green travellers to tell the world about their recent no-fly adventures. By creating a two-way dialogue, ecoescape is inspiring people to think about ways they can embrace the idea of ‘responsible escapism’.
  • We follow our responsible life cycle. For us the medium really is the message. The responsible life cycle demonstrates that every single act, no matter how large or small, has an environmental and social impact. The book is printed in the UK on 100% recycled paper using vegetable based inks and water based seals. In the responsible life cycle, the consumer also takes responsibility for the impact of the guide through recycling, sharing and composting. The same goes for the website. ecoescape.org is hosted on 100% renewable energy and at ecoescape, we use a green energy tariff when we're working on the website.

2008 will be an exciting year for ecoescape. To keep up to date with new titles and website developments, sign up for our monthly newsletter, the eco-logue.
